Danilo Petrucci Doesn't Have To Beat Andrea Dovizioso said Ducati Sports Director
QUX.ME, GENOA - Ducati Corse Sports Director, Paolo Ciabatti, said that Danilo Petrucci did not have to beat Andrea Dovizioso.
After four seasons with the Ducati satellite team, Danilo Petrucci finally got a promotion to the Ducati manufacturing team.
In his Ducati debut season, Paolo Ciabatti asked Danilo Petrucci to win his first victory in the MotoGP class.
Although he has got a motorcycle manufacturer since two seasons ago, Petrucci just won the podium in the second and third position.
"Petrucci must face greater pressure than before and his target is to win the first race, and consistently fight in the top five," said Ciabatti.
Ducati seems to want to give full support to Petrucci's colleague Andrea Dovizioso in the 2019 season.
Referring to the plan, Paolo Ciabatti also asked Danilo Petrucci not to compete with Andrea Doviziosodemi to realize Ducati's main goal of the world title.
"Petrucci's target is not to beat Dovizioso, but if he can do it, it's perfect," Ciabatti said.
"The focus is on increasing his confidence, not showing that he is better than Dovizioso," he continued.
Petrucci only has a one-year contract with the manufacturer from Borgo Panigale, Italy.
That is, his performance in 2019 MotoGP will affect the negotiation of new contracts for the following season.
